2011 is flying south?

I realized my bathroom calendar is still stuck in July yet August is half way over (hmm 4th of July was just here I thought sadly). I looked at it, shook my head and left it stuck in time.

Do you feel as though you're stuck in time as it relates to your fitness "resolutions" for 2009, 2010 and beyond? Are you struggling with the same challenges? Did you even bother to make fitness goals in 2011?

If so, what are some goals set forth and accomplished at this time? Have you made any positive changes on your fitness journey? If so, what has helped you along the way thus far?

If not, why? Is it a lack of interest, lack of motivation, lack of time management or lack of accountability etc?

Let's talk about it and help each finish the next four months better than the last eight.

  1. The year is certainly going by quickly! My main goal this year is to get some 5ks under my belt. I have my first in a few weeks! I just need to be sure to stick to my weekly running and cross training workouts!

  2. The time really is flying by. I find myself with the same single issue, working on my abs. Call it a lack of motivation and poor time management. I hope to eventually win this battle.

  3. Ms. S-
That is a wonderful goal for 2011; good luck in advance on your upcoming first 5K run. What inspired you to make 5ks a fitness goal for 2011? Have you ran into any challenges, roadblocks etc on your journey? This is something I aspire to do by the end of 2011 so I'm very interested in knowing how it has been thus far.

  4. Julie Mango-
I'm so glad you stopped by to comment and join E B & Nutty. So Julie, what is the real underlying problem (s)here? I saw what you wrote above but.. I recall visiting you in '09 and we use to work or abs (or perhaps I observed you doing some intense exercises). Are you still playing volley ball and eating as well as you did back then? And you're correct, that was the single thing on your fitness agenda (smile).

  5. Thanks EV (can I do that? :D ) Anywhoodle, I used to run in the past but always on a treadmill. When I decided run outside it just wouldn't work. You can see my full story here:

    http://turtleneckandhighwaistjeans.blogspot.com/2011/07/running-revelation.html

Long story short, I decided that I would not be defeated because I REALLY wanted to incorporate running in my exercise routine. Keeping motivated to exercise in the first place was tough for me. I would go 6 solids months of working out consistently and then the following 3-4 months would be haphazard. I found a program that worked and I have an accountability partner that keeps me going as well. That's the major road block, staying motivated. Also, pushing myself too hard to fast trying to get to goals in unrealistic timelines. Running injuries are so easy to happen so its important to increase your distance SLOWLY!!!

@Julie Mango- I hear you! You should try getting an accountability partner, mine has done wonders for my workout routine. Good luck on the 6 pack lady :D

  6. :) My eating habits are still the same. I also play volleyball at least once a week. The problem is that after being at work all day, then going home to an energy ball I don't have the motivation to do a workout. I much rather go to sleep after finally getting my son to bed. I try to set a goal, I start out good then I miss a day and it all goes downhill from there!

  7. I truly need to get my act together. I guess one of my biggest issues is area and companionship. However, i was recently counseled on a way to make this a win-win instead of a hot mess. I should travel more around my own neighborhood since it has hills and corners. I should also start small (says my advisor) and make small goals. This was awesome advice. I stopped going to my YMCA due to gas prices so utilizing what I have around me should work just as good!

  9. Julie Mango-
I totally understand where you are because little J' is more than an energy ball. I'll be in touch about getting in some more exercise during the week. Talk to you soon.

  10. Kay,
Thanks for joining and posting on E B & Nutty. Taking advantage of those hills in your community is a great idea because they are serious indeed. Going a different route will minimize boredom when possible. I wish we lived closer to each other but we'll work out a fitness plan for you next week if you have time. Stay motivated...

  11. Yes, time management can be challenging, and sometimes it's difficult when you have multiple obligations(work, kids, school etc) but the thing i have learned is you have to fit excerise and healthy eating in however you can. Even if it's 15 minutes a day of walking instead of taking your car to the store, or playing with your children for 10 minutes, you have to find creative ways to incorporate fitness into your life!
